Well, my sense of this tune started with Miles and Gil. I tried to nod to that with the chordal guitar harmony as much as I could, even using Gil's stunning coda. Impossible to really get what Miles and Gil found...but that particular version on 'Miles Ahead' was in MY head on every note, with every careful choice of chord voicing on that 'swimmy' stratocaster providing the harmony. The melody and solo are played on my lovely Gibson ES335 with custom pickups by the great Ron ellis (for all you guitar nerds out there!). This is, perhaps, my favorite solo on the entire project.
