Marvin's tune. Again, to cover something as iconic as this, I had to at the same time change the game a bit and never lose his concept if possible. I used to listen to VERY late night radio here in NYC, just when contemporary jazz made it's early appearance. We used to have a radio station called WRVR that would spin these sexy grooves past the midnight hour. That's where I was going with this arrangement. Just a solid pocket groove all the way through. melody on guitar with some carefully placed percussion and a very 3-D mix. I opted to play bass on this one tune. Bass was my first instrument and I love playing it...and grew up playing this music so it was a great pleasure for me to just sit back in the rhythm section and help create the pocket...
