This used to be called 'Hangin' at Becky's'...but I could never get the vibe of the middle sections right. Becky's was a bar, now long gone, in town here, where my trio used to pass our 'breaks' from a gig we used to have, weekly. Each break, the vibe at Becky's would get stranger and stranger. Much alcohol consumed by the patrons, 5 televisions broadcasting 5 different sports events and a juke box BLARING by 10pm. Beckys went from a groovy little bar to...mayhem. Only I couldn't get the angst and pent-up aggression in the middle of the tune's melody and 'B' sections in solos. Not until the awful events of the terrorist attack in Paris. That week I was working on this tune in the studio. And the anger and pure frustration I was feeling came out in those sections...so the French, new locale of Becky's became imaginary...and...Parisienne. Listen for the mayhem in those sections...it is an undercurrent...but right there.
